Our Story — Bass & Madie | Stoked Out Snack Co.

Everyone in the backcountry just calls him Bass.

He's guided heli-ski and cat-ski tours and patrolled on tele skis and on bikes from Mt. Hood to Taos to the Wasatch to Buffalo Pass above Steamboat. He's written his own guide book, Sled Skiing Buffalo Pass. And he's worked as a snow safety director — the person other guides and patrollers trust to read the snowpack and make the call before anyone else gets to have fun. Every North American summer, when the snow goes away up here, he heads to Argentina to ski couloirs and eat his weight in empanadas.

That's also where the other half of this story ends up. He met Madie, his wife and Stoked Out's co-founder, the way the best mountain stories start — they were both ski patrollers at Powder Mountain. He proposed on a twenty-inch day cat skiing in Steamboat, the kind of day people wait a career for. They got married on top of Refugio Frey, high in the Argentine Andes.

Plenty of brands sell the idea of the outdoors. Very few feed the people already out in it.

Stoked Out supplies the fuel he could never find for that work — a career spent stoking people out in the mountains and getting them back home in one piece. So he and Madie curate it themselves: no seed oils, no refined sugar, nothing in the box they wouldn't hand a partner before dropping in.

Madie is Director of High-Altitude Events & Dawn Patrol. Their son Bodhi serves as Chairman of Stoke, a role he's held since birth and takes extremely seriously.
